Building Regulations Safety

Fire Safety

There are of course fire safety regulations that cover all buildings, however the building regulations stipulate that the risk to life from a fire occurring in a three storey property is greater than that in a one or two storey dwelling. Because of this, the fire safety regulations covering loft conversions are more stringent and comprehensive than regulations for many other types of extensions and conversions.

When carrying out a loft conversion the following facets of fire safety must be taken into account:

  • Installation of smoke detectors
  • Means of Escape
  • Internal Fire Spread (Structure)
  • External Fire Spread

To find out more about how these regulations affect your proposed loft conversion please contact us at Absolute Lofts or you local authority.
