We were commissioned to design and develop a loft conversion for our client’s family home in Walthamstow, East London. The vision behind the design was to forge a flexible, multi-purpose space that could serve as a home office, music room, and as a place to relax and entertain friends. As well as giving the family the extra space they craved, our homeowner saw the loft conversion as a savvy investment, adding value and boosting the home’s appeal when they came to sell in the future.

The thoughtful layout turned the original dark loft into a large, light filled living space. To maximise light, double Velux rooflights were installed at one end, mirrored at the other end by elegant French doors. A frameless glass balcony illuminates the room while offering fantastic skyline views.
Rather than defining the space, the open plan room has subtle zones, including a home office with ample shelving, a piano practice space, and a chill out area. The décor complements the open concept beautifully. Real wood herringbone floor combined with crisp white walls accentuate light and give the illusion of even more space.
For comfort and convenience, the new loft layout also includes a stylish new shower room. Comprising smart glass shower enclosure, wall mounted vanity unit and toilet, the extra bathroom is ideal for busy bath times and hosting overnight guests. White wall tiles make the bathroom feel bigger, while bold geometric floor tiles give a contemporary edge.

Completing the loft space is a new custom loft staircase. Loft stairs are often overlooked as a mundane item just to provide access but their function and appearance can make a big difference to the quality and finish of the overall project.
With this conversion, a full-size staircase was constructed leading to the new floor. Modern stair railings, meticulously designed and painted to match the existing, were paired with natural herringbone carpet, creating a continuous connection with the floor below.
Installing a skylight above the stairwell also allows in plenty of light and makes the loft conversion feel part of the home’s core structure. Our client was delighted with the how the new addition fits with the rest of the property and high standard of finish.
