Location:
Lewisham, South East London, SE13
Type of Loft Conversion:
Inset Dormer – 1 bed en-suite
Duration of Build:
8 weeks
Background:
As parents with three children our clients wanted to create their own private space to relax and unwind. Adding a Dormer loft conversion in their Lewisham home would allow them to have their own complete storey, while enabling the children to occupy the three bedrooms on the floor below.
"The loft conversion has given us a much-needed space of our own. It’s great to have an adult space just for us grown-ups, while the children now each have their own bedrooms. It’s given us the house we wanted without moving!"
Jane Homeowner
The final space is an exhausted parents’ dream consisting of a stylish master bedroom, private en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, workspace, plus lots of built-in storage to keep the space calm and inviting.
The feeling of light and space is enhanced with triple Velux rooflights, which flood the space with natural light. At night, hanging bedside lights set the mood for winding down and relaxing.
The beauty of this Dormer loft conversion is its stylish, well thought-out design mixing classic and modern décor.
Although a newly built loft space, using vintage elements like reclaimed pine floorboards and retro metal lampshades add depth and personality. The contrasting dark blue walls of the bedroom make the fresh white woodwork and door frames really ‘pop’.
Carrying through the classic features of our client’s home into the new loft space was an important part of their brief. We designed and installed a traditional set of stairs, complete with classic turned spindles, newel posts and dado rail, so that the new loft rooms fitted seamlessly with the rest of the property.
The adjoining en suite bathroom was fitted with a spacious walk-in shower, toilet and basin for those crucial early morning wake ups.
Stone effect flooring and tiles mixed with edgier details, such as hanging lights and matt black taps and towel rail, continue the loft extension’s classic but contemporary feel.
Entering a calm, clutter-free room helps relieve stress, especially after a busy day looking after three children. To ensure there was plenty of space to put things away, a set of bespoke wardrobes were built into the existing chimney breast. The flush fitted wardrobes make the most of the unusual shape, without taking up any valuable floor space.
