Background:
Rapidly outgrowing their home’s original footprint, our clients needed more space. They also wanted to invest in their property by adding extra square footage with a loft conversion, increasing the overall value of their home.
"The L-shaped dormer design really opens up the original loft structure, giving our homeowners not just one bedroom but two bedrooms and a bathroom – that’s a lot of extra living space"
Project Manager
The final L-shaped Dormer loft conversion provided a dreamy upgrade, not to mention boosted the home’s original blueprint. By extending the existing loft space, our clients gained an expansive new master bedroom, home study and bathroom. The new master bedroom is virtually double the size of the previous first-floor bedroom and encompasses a beautiful new bathroom, just for them.
The spacious loft rooms are accessed by a new wooden staircase and landing. The thoughtful banister and handrail design replicate the home’s existing staircase, right down to the classic ball top finials. Inside the bedrooms, none of the home’s classic charm is lost. Care was taken to ensure lofty high ceilings – making the space open and light – along with wooden skirting boards with a Victorian profile, retaining the property’s period character.
In the main bedroom, bespoke wardrobes make a strong feature in the otherwise simple space. Custom built to fit seamlessly into a recess, the wardrobes provide abundant storage for clothing, shoes, and other items.
To ensure plentiful daylight, a huge custom rooflight was installed in the ceiling. The central skylight creates an impressive focal point and provides uplifting sky views. While a modern sash window lets in even more light, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing reading chair.
Alongside a master bedroom and en suite, we also built a second room to the rear of the property, providing our client’s with a separate loft home office. The private study space comfortably holds a desk, chair and PC, along with more built-in storage.
The beauty of having an additional room is its ability to be made into another bedroom, providing an extra guestroom when needed, plus it will boost the home’s potential re-sale value even more.
The final touch was laying pale real wood flooring and decorating in a rich blue-grey hue to contrast beautifully with the white woodwork. The final space is wonderfully sophisticated and calm – the ultimate place to unwind at the end of a busy day.
