Hither Green, South East London, SE6
Type of Loft Conversion:
L-shaped Dormer – 1 bed, 1 bath, 1 home-office
Duration of Build:
As part of a major renovation project, our homeowners wanted to invest in a large-scale loft conversion at their SE6 home in Hither Green, south east London. Alongside giving them lots more living space to play with, they wanted to maximise the potential return on their property for the future.
"There were times we thought we’d bitten off more than we could chew, but looking at it all now, we’re so, so happy how it’s turned out."
The completed loft conversion comprises a super spacious L-shaped Dormer extension – where two Dormers are built connected to one another – housing an exquisitely finished master bedroom, contemporary bathroom and home office.
Accessed from the first floor via a landing and full-size staircase, the generous new loft conversion looks and feels as though it is part of the original property.
As with all our loft conversions, introducing natural light was a design priority. In the main bedroom, uPVC French doors with a steel Juliet balcony allow in plenty of light and offer panoramic views of outside. While double Velux windows in the sloping roof introduce even more daylight, making this sizeable conversion feel even larger.
Our clients were eager to create a luxurious loft conversion with its own en suite bathroom. As such, we designed and installed a stylish, modern bathroom with roomy walk-in shower. The chrome fittings and white metro tiles create a sleek, minimalist finish.
It was important to our clients that their loft conversion reflected the period and character of their original 1930s home. Details such as adding a Victorian inspired black and white chequer tiled floor and period style radiators bring warmth and character to the modern interior.
With our clients working from home more, they also wanted to create a private space to work and take calls. A home office next to the main bedroom with its own feature window, provides the perfect spot for homeworking. As it is discreetly tucked away, the loft study space doesn’t compromise the bedroom’s relaxed, inviting feel.
With the main components of the build complete, the final touch was decorating throughout and crafting bespoke under eaves storage. The custom cabinets and drawers sit neatly into the angle of the roof, creating ample built-in storage, while the shelf above is perfect for displaying treasured photos and trinkets.
