Pitched Dormer – 2 beds, 2 bathrooms
14 weeks
Specialising in London loft conversions, we quite often work with homeowners who work or live overseas for long periods of time, as was the case with our next client.
During the planning stage of a large dormer loft conversion to expand their flat, our client was called away for work in the far east, taking them away for the duration of the build. The good news is that with today’s technology it is possible to design and deliver a loft conversion while keeping the client fully in the loop.
As well as securing all the relevant permissions to start the project, we were able to install and finish the entire new loft space, regularly updating our client on the build’s progress via Skype and WhatsApp.
"We weren’t sure if the conversion could go ahead as I was called away for work overseas but Craig and his team handled everything amazingly. They kept us updated, sending progress reports, photos and asking us about the different details we wanted. The final loft looks incredible, we can’t wait to see it!"
Grant and Blanca Homeowner's
Alongside giving our client much more living space to play with, the increase in rooms will significantly enhance the flat’s re-sale value.
As converting the attic in a flat has the potential to impact neighbouring flats, it is important to gain relevant permissions before starting.
Every conversion has different criteria but with this project we had to seek permission from the building’s freeholder (which took 12 months) and written consent from individual flat owners to erect the scaffold. Once the freeholder gave consent, we also had to obtain full planning permission from the local planning authority. With permissions in place, work got swiftly underway.
Light, Airy Flat Loft Conversion with Traditional Details
The loft conversion was sensitively designed to complement the flat’s period style, including creating a custom built traditional wooden staircase.
The grand staircase and landing add a striking feature while giving the appearance as if they are part of the original fabric of the building.
From the outset our client was keen to maximise living space. The new layout created two sizeable bedrooms, each with their own contemporary en suite bathroom. Space-saving fittings such as floating sinks and toilets, keep the look clean and minimalist.
To introduce lots of natural light, large Velux pitched roof windows were built into the sloping roof, instantly making the rooms feel light and airy.
We ensure all our loft spaces are finished and decorated to a high standard, allowing clients to move in straight away. Having discussed different options with our client, warm wooden flooring was laid throughout, while the walls and ceilings were decorated in a calm, neutral palette, enhancing the feeling of space even further.
