Our client approached us with a clear vision for her home in Hackney, to transform the underused loft space into a beautiful and functional extension of her living area. Her motivation was two-fold she, needed additional room for everyday comfort and saw the conversion as a smart financial investment to significantly boost the value of her property.
The existing layout of the property, a charming, character-filled one-bedroom flat in a period building, simply didn’t offer enough space for modern living. With this in mind, we set out to design and build a loft conversion that would meet her needs and exceed her expectations. The brief was to create a serene master bedroom inspired by botanical themes, complete with generous built-in storage and a bright, airy feel. The result is a harmonious space that not only elevates her lifestyle but also adds long term value to the home.

To comply with Hackney’s planning guidelines while delivering maximum internal space, we designed and constructed a rear dormer loft conversion with a subtle inset. This approach ensured that the dormer sat neatly in line with the existing roof ridge, maintaining harmony with the neighbouring properties and preserving the traditional roofline. Despite the understated exterior profile, this type of loft conversion in Hackney provides a generous increase in usable floor space, perfect for the creation of a light-filled master bedroom and stylish en suite bathroom.
Although the extension is a modern addition, our team worked meticulously to ensure it blended seamlessly with the character of the original period home. From the very first step into the new space, the craftsmanship is evident. We installed a bespoke staircase crafted from antique pine, leading gracefully up to the loft. Period details such as painted timber architraves, classic Victorian style doors, and traditional ceramic doorknobs were carefully chosen to maintain a sense of authenticity and charm.
The new master bedroom is a true highlight of the project, open, bright, and infused with a botanical theme that reflects the client’s vision. Natural light floods the space thanks to a pair of Velux rooflights and full-length French doors, which lead out to a slimline metal Juliet balcony with delicate railings. This not only invites in sunlight throughout the day but also provides a lovely open outlook, enhancing the room’s feeling of calm and spaciousness.
Storage was another key consideration in this Hackney loft conversion. We designed and built bespoke wardrobes in a traditional shaker style, featuring recessed panel doors that add timeless elegance while offering ample storage. These details help the room retain its period feel despite the contemporary construction.
Adjoining the bedroom is a compact yet beautifully finished en suite bathroom. Designed with a corner shower and Victorian-inspired fixtures, the space balances practicality with luxury. Striking green geometric floor tiles add a hint of art deco flair, delivering visual interest and tying in perfectly with the botanical colour palette carried throughout the loft.
As with all Absolute Lofts projects, we provided a complete turnkey service, managing every aspect of the interior finish, from plastering and decorating to final fittings and tiling. The finishing touches in this Hackney loft conversion included crisp white woodwork and deep green feature walls, creating a serene, nature,inspired retreat that feels both luxurious and lived in.
