The owners of this property were a young couple with a young firstborn, looking to build upon their family. Whilst they were unable to afford a larger property, they knew they could expand on what they had to fit with their desires.
After we consulted with the clients, we agreed that by utilising the shape of the house and building an L Shaped Mansard loft conversion, we could create an additional two bedrooms, one bathroom and also an outside roof terrace area. With access to the shared garden limited and difficult, the chance to have a private outside space was jumped at.
So we could maximise the space available to us, we agreed a split-level conversion was the best option. This meant essentially two more levels were added to the property, one with an additional bedroom, separated by steps that lead to the master bedroom and roof terrace area.
Once the project was complete, the couple had effectively doubled the room capacity of their home and added an extra 35% of area to the original one storey property.
