Teen Bedroom and En-Suite Loft Conversion in Romford RM1

Result

The completed rear dormer created a spacious double bedroom and private en-suite for the family’s teenage son, giving him a room of his own while reducing pressure on the existing first-floor bedrooms.

Natural light was an important part of the finished bedroom. Large double Velux rooflights were installed within the pitched section of roof, while triple-pane leaded windows within the dormer brought additional daylight into the new room. The patterned glazing also provided a decorative feature while helping maintain privacy.

Making practical use of the lower areas beneath the roof was another important part of the design. Bespoke built-in wardrobes were fitted beneath the eaves to provide useful storage for clothes, games and books, while low-level cupboards made use of space that could otherwise have been difficult to access.

The wall beneath the sloping roof also created a natural position for the television and additional storage furniture. By using these lower sections carefully, the central area of the bedroom could remain open and uncluttered while still providing the storage a teenager needs.

A Private En-Suite

The adjoining en-suite gave the new bedroom its own bathroom facilities rather than adding further demand to the existing family bathroom.

The en-suite includes a walk-in shower, toilet and basin. Large-format stone tiles were used across the floor and walls, helping to reflect light around the room and create a clean, spacious finish. A heated towel rail provides additional warmth and makes the bathroom more comfortable for everyday use.

The completed conversion solved the problem that originally led the family to consider their loft. Their teenage son gained a permanent double bedroom, built-in storage and his own en-suite, while the existing bedrooms elsewhere in the house could be used more effectively as the children grew older.
