L-Shaped Mansard – 1 bed, 1 bath
10 weeks
As a music teacher, our client wanted a loft conversion to create a dedicated music practice room within their home.
The client’s prized harpsichord was dismantled and re built within the new loft conversion.
"Its not everyday a loft conversion is built primarily as a music room. The loft is one of the most bright and airy ones I have ever constructed."

Following discussions with our client about their vision and inspecting the loft space, we designed and installed a generous L-shaped mansard loft extension. L-shaped mansards are ideally suited to the proportions of London Victorian and Edwardian properties and benefit homeowners by adding even more space and value than a traditional rear mansard.
The addition of three large Velux skylights and French doors let in abundant light. The feature of a Juliet balcony allows the doors to fully open, giving great views and allowing air to flow through.
The room itself was designed to maximise every inch of space and light. White walls and natural wood flooring keep the space light and serene.
Simple design moves, such as opting for recessed ceiling spotlights and a wall mounted TV, also enhance the feeling of space.
Our client also wanted the convenience of having an adjoining en suite. To the rear of the conversion, a tranquil loft bathroom was built featuring a full-sized jacuzzi bath.
Making bath time even more luxurious, a mirrored television was built into the bath surround.
The bathroom was finished with large format stone tiles, helping the compact space feel even bigger.
How a loft conversion looks from the outside is just as important as the inside. The exterior of this mansard was meticulously designed to match the home’s existing proportions and look. Finishing touches such as using colour-matched roof tiles and uPVC sash windows to mirror the home’s traditional ones really make this conversion sing!
