L-shaped Dormer – 1 home office, 1 bed, 1 bath
10 weeks
Our client had recently left teaching to work from home. Her priority was developing a chic office loft conversion in her Hornchurch home, as well as a new master bedroom and a shower room. Another item on our client’s must-haves was masses of storage.
"The conversion added a huge amount of space. We really like the big outdoor balcony, which we can use all year round."
Mark and Stacey, Homeowner
Accessed by a new staircase from the first-floor landing is the new office and bathroom. The office was designed to optimise light and space. An L-shaped desk fits snuggly beneath the window, while allowing plenty of room for shelves and storage.
When we inspected the original roof, we spotted the potential for an outside terrace. The newly tiled area creates a permanent outdoor space – perfect for coming out and having a coffee during the day.
Adjoining the new attic office is a modern shower room. Space-saving appliances, such as the wall-hung toilet and fitted basin unit, allow more room for the walk-in shower. Colourful tiles add a splash of colour to the otherwise neutral space.
Up a few steps is the new master bedroom. Here we made sure there was abundant built-in storage. Constructed to fit into the slope of the loft roof is an entire bespoke storage system, including multiple fitted wardrobes, drawers, and a dressing table.
We introduced lots of light with two extra-large rooflights at one end, and a floor-to-ceiling window at the other. The bedroom was decorated in a warm grey colour highlighting the tone of the in-built cabinets.
As well as decorating the interior, the loft exterior was finished to a high standard. Rustic red tile cladding and black finishes match the adjoining homes perfectly.
